The Child returns! Fernando Tatis is activated by the Padres and plays against Rockies

Fernando Tatis returns with the Padres.

ANDl stellar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. and first baseman Eric Hosmer were reactivated by the San Diego Padres after passing COVID-19 protocols before Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Tatis tested positive before the game against Colorado on May 11 and Hosmer was withdrawn from the game due to contact tracing. Right fielder Wil Meyers also had to exit the game after testing positive on a diagnostic test. Manager Jayce Tingler said he expects Myers to return this weekend.

Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo were also singled out for contact tracing that night. They were reactivated this Monday.

The Padres were 7-1 without Tatis, Hosmer and Myers, including the weekend series sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals, leaders of the NL Central.

To make room for Tatis and Hosmer on the roster, the Padres sent the infielder Tucupita Marcano to El Paso from Triple-A and outfielder John Andreoli also returned to El Paso.
