Real Madrid captain and Spanish basketball legend, Felipe Reyes, will announce his imminent retirement as a professional player in the coming days. To their 41 years, the Cordovan center will say goodbye to basketball away from the courts because of the coronavirus, which separated him from the team dynamics in the final Playoff of the ACB.
The news, advanced this afternoon by the newspaper AS, confirms an open secret, and that is that the protagonism of the white interior has been minimal in the last campaign of Pablo Laso’s team.
In his record will be the 10 medals achieved with the national team and the 24 ACB titles that he achieved almost entirely dressed in white. Reyes, professionals since 1999, changed the colors of Estudiantes for Madrid in 2004.
In his individual CV there are two MVPs of the Endesa League, achieved in 2009 and 2015, in addition to the MVP of the 2007 Final Playoff. Felipe has broken several records on a personal level: he is the player who has played the most games and has captured the most rebounds in the history of the Euroleague, and also the one who has the most games in the Endesa League.
With Real Madrid he also accumulates marks: he is the player with the most matches and ball steals, as well as the oldest in history to wear the white jersey, something he has done continuously since 2004 for a total 17 seasons with the club.
