Paula Badosa could not overcome a very demanding first round in the WTA 500 in Eastbourne, where she fell to the second favorite of the tournament, Elina Svitolina, in the tiebreaker of the third set: 6-4, 1-6 and 7-6 (1) in 2:17.
The Spanish came back with a 5-0 run in the first set when she lost 4-1, but was disconnected in the second, with some problems of adaptation to the grass surface and to the wind. The third set began with a break behind and equalized the score up to three sets on occasions, always in tow of the Ukrainian, who got 6-5 and served, but did not know how to close the victory before the tie-break in the which was much higher with seven points in a row after 0-1.

Svitolina will face the Kazakh Elena Rybakina in the second round, who could with the British Harriet Dart (6-2, 6-7 (2) and 6-4). Badosa was the only representative of the Navy in a cadre headed by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
