One more year, and seven in a row, Pablo Carreño did not fail in the first round of Roland Garros. The man from Gijón moved on to second place, and with very good feelings, after beating the 30-year-old Slovakian and 87th in the world Norbert Gombos in three sets in less than two hours: 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3. Now a rival awaits for the second phase: the Lithuanian Gerasimov or the French Couacaud.
The most remarkable thing about Carreño’s performance is that he only gave his rival a break option and, in addition, he saved it without problems. For the rest, with 30 winning strokes and 20 unforced errors, he dominated a match in which he lost very few points with his serve (19). If he respects his physique, he has a promising future in the tournament, for a part of the table in which he should not fear any rival, because he is capable of winning anyone.
