The epic battle between Alonso and Hamilton at the Hungarian GP: “I always made the same mistakes”

This Saturday, just before the start of the 89th edition of the legendary endurance test, Alonso will once again circulate on the Sarthe track but not at the wheel of an LMP1 like the Toyota with which it won in 2018 and 2019 or the Hypercars that have replaced them as the premier category, but with the current Formula 1 that he has been wearing during the season of his return to the Great Circus.

Alpine has organized an event to commemorate and celebrate its involvement with the competition, now that the brand has returned in style as the sports version of the Renault group. One hour before the 24-hour start, the Alpine F1 (the A521), of the WEC (the A470) and the different versions of the A110 (GT4, Rally and the A110S of street) will go out to the track where later the race will be disputed.

At the wheel of the A521 will be Fernando Alonso. It will be a historic occasion, since although Le Mans has hosted some Grand Circus races, it has never been on the classic track where the Endurance race is held every year.

It will be a unique occasion to see an F1 on straights such as Arnage, Mulsanne or Les Hunadieres, the Porsche curves, Tetre Rouge or the Dunlop bridge, and see him for the 13,626 km over which the race runs. Alonso being competitive as he is and with the absolute knowledge he has about this circuit (his performance at the night of Le Mans in 2018 is still in the minds of fans), that no one rule out that he even goes for a good time.

The off-road test expert Manu Guidou will get behind the wheel of the historic Alpine A110 rally car, Pierre Thiriet (twice winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans) will ride the WEC A470, Esteban Ocon will test the A110 GT4 and the CEO of the company himself, Laurent rossi, it will be with the A110S.
