GIancarlo Stanton snapped off his lousy hitting streak by hitting two home runs and the New York Yankees had four homers to beat the Cleveland Indians 5-3 on Friday night.
One of the home runs of Stanton made the ball register the fastest speed in any game this season.
In the third inning, Stanton hit a 429-foot home run off Logan Allen (1-3), firing the ball at 118 mph. In the fifth, he got the second.
He hadn’t hit more than one home run in a game since Sept. 27, 2018. Stanton was hitting .158 and was 3-for-34.
New York has won two consecutive duels and three out of four, after a horrendous start to the campaign. The Yankees overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first inning for the second straight game.
The Venezuelan Rougned Odor added a two-run homer, while Aaron Hicks also disappeared the ball for New York.
Lucas Luetge (1-0) got four outs for his first major league win since 2013, when he was playing in Seattle.
For the Yankees, the Venezuelans Gleyber Torres 4-0, Odor 4-1 with one scored and two RBIs. Colombian Gio Urshela 3-0. Gary Sanchez 4-1 with a run scored.
