Roland Garros woke up this Friday in shock after hearing the news of the arrest of Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova this Thursday night after falling in his doubles match with Ekaterina Alexandrova against Ajla Tomljanovic and Storm Sanders for a double 6-1, according to the newspaper Le Parisien.

The reason for the arrest is the investigation that a Paris court had carried out on Sizikova since last October for alleged participation in “organized fraud” and for “active and passive sports corruption,” according to the daily Die Welt.

The events go back to the celebration of Roland Garros 2020 and more specifically to the first round doubles match that Sizikova played with Madison Brengle against the Romanians Andreea Mitu and Patricia Maria Tig, when in the fifth game of the second set tens of thousands of euros were bet on the victory of the Romanian couple, something that finally happened (7-6 and 6-4), in a game in which Sizikova committed two double faults. The Roland Garros organization has not yet ruled on what happened.
