ANDhe commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob Manfred joined the stalled labor negotiations with the players on Friday.just three days from the deadline imposed by the owners to reach an agreement that avoids the shortening of the 162-game campaign.

After four consecutive days of virtually fruitless negotiating sessions, which focused on exchanging proposals on minutiae, Manfred emerged from the offices behind home plate at Roger Dean Stadium and headed to the building in the right field corner, which includes the St. Louis Cardinals clubhouse.

The players’ union has used that building to hold its assemblies.
