Outbreak of coronavirus infections in Yankees forces postponement of game against Red Sox

Covid infections are reported in the Yankees.

ANDl game of the Yankees and Boston Red Sox, first of both teams after the All-Star break, postponed Thursday after pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Néstor Cortés Jr. and Wandy Peralta tested positive for coronavirus in the New York organization.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said three additional tests were pending. However, he assumed they will test positive.

Loaisiga entered the COVID-19 list on Saturday, when the Yankees were in Houston. The Nicaraguan did not travel to New York with the team on Sunday.

Cashman said most players have been vaccinated, but not all.

Although vaccines do not prevent a person from contracting COVID-19, it does prevent serious effects.

“So far, everyone is fine”, Cashman commented.

He added that the Major League Baseball office has not decided whether to postpone the second game of the series of four, scheduled for Friday.

“The situation is evolving rapidly for now,” he explained.
