The Spaniard, who in 2020 reached the third round, qualified for the second this Monday by beating Sebastian Korda in three sets (6-4, 6-2 and 6-2 in 2h: 15). The American perhaps paid for the effort to win the title in Parma last Saturday, but that does not detract from the solid and forceful match that Martinez played, who will now have a beautiful, albeit complicated match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Valencian played unleashed and knew how to protect his serve with 82% of points won with first. That way, he didn’t concede a break in the whole game and Korda only had four options to score one. Now it is hoped that Pedro, burdened by some physical problems so far this season, can continue the streak that began last year in Paris and continued in 2021 with his qualification for the third round in Australia.
