Christian Garín closed the door of what would have been his first round of 16 in a Grand Slam against Pedro Martínez and it will be he who makes his debut in that round of Wimbledon, after having reached Roland Garros a little over a month ago. The 20-year-old Chilean and 17th favorite, sixth from his country to go this far in the tournament, won by 6-4, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4 at 2:56 and he will face Djokovic or Kudla next Monday.
Garín was superior in the first two sets after recovering the disadvantage of an early break that Martinez endorsed him. From there he dominated the Valencian, who was headed for a loss on the fast track when, with 4-2 against on the scoreboard, he hooked a 4-0 run that put him back in the game.

They were his best tennis moments and he extended them as long as he could against a rival who is in the best moment of his career and who already defends well on all surfaces. In the fourth set he put a lot of pressure on the rest and took a break that would serve him to win after the Valencian raised three match points. Christian is on the brink of the top-15 and Pedro is back in the top-100.
