Former base Carlos Arroyo’s uniform will be removed from a Puerto Rico League team

San Juan, Oct 6 (EFE) .- The Cangrejeros de Santurce, of the National Superior Basketball (BSN) -main League of Puerto Rico- announced this Wednesday that tomorrow, Thursday, they will remove the uniform of number 7 of the international ex-gunman Carlos Arroyo.

The ceremony will take place at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, in San Juan, during the second “Retro Nights” at halftime in the match between the Cangrjeros and the Vaqueros de Bayamón in the last game of the BSN regular season in Santurce. .

Arroyo, who was a point guard in the NBA, Spain, Israel, Turkey and the Puerto Rico national team, played seven of his 12 seasons at BSN with the Cangrejeros.

With the Cangrejeros he won consecutive national titles between 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001, and 2003.

In 12 BSN seasons he averaged 14.9 points, 5.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game.

In total he scored 4,258 points.

Arroyo made his BSN debut in 1996 with Cariduros from Fajardo, his hometown on the east coast of the island.

With the Cariduros he also played in 1997, 2017 and 2018.

Arroyo retired from BSN in 2019 with the Ponce Lions.

After retiring, he was appointed the new general manager of the Puerto Rico men’s team.

With the adult squad, he achieved a legendary victory against the United States at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, beating them the first defeat of an American team made up of NBA players in Olympic competitions.

The ex-gunman and captain of the National Team collaborated in the recruitment of players and worked on the integration of former NBA player Shabazz Napier in the third window and qualifier for the AmeriCup 2022 tournament.
