Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso is seen with 43 years still fighting in Formula 1 and remembers that Hamilton “was never invincible”

“I have adapted quite well and have found no surprises”, explained a Fernando Alonso who indicates the most important changes in the cars in relation to his previous stage. “For the pilot the front suspension and the power steering is the most different. And also the tires, they are more delicate and fragile. Retaking that touch is perhaps the hardest step I have had to take, but I am quite happy ”.

The physical aspect has been the most complicated when it comes to returning to Formula 1. Alonso confirmed to De la Morena that it took several grand prizes to be in tune for the demands of the races. “Until race four on Sunday night I didn’t have much neck ease. Normal muscle aches but from there I am adapted. There are also marks on the skin and some injuries due to the lack of a car ”, confessed the Asturian.

Regarding his real options in the World Cup, Fernando Alonso is realistic and does not come especially up. “When you are in F1 you know what positions you can aspire to. If you stay ahead you will be very satisfied ”, explains Alonso. “There are football teams that if they reach the Europa League it is a success. It’s frustrating, but my return this year is focused on 2022. I could have lived it from home but the best thing was to be here”.

The reality is that the Alpine team has been greatly affected by the regulation change and therefore has no choice but to look to the (immediate) future and not obsess over the present. “The current car is a bit abandoned. It will not have substantial evolution in any team. All factories are working for next year because the car is not going to look like it at all. At Alpine we are very happy with what we are working on for 2022 ”, confesses the pilot. “It is all a coin in the air, Mercedes, Red Bull are sure to have a competitive car. But mid-zone cars have a dream opportunity to catch up with the leaders”.

With an open heart and without hiding anything, Fernando Alonso also spoke about the change that his life took with the arrival of fame after his jump to Formula 1 in 2001. “Fame came to me as a brutal outrage. I had to live things for which I was not prepared, at that age and without any maturity. Suddenly you are on all the covers, making announcements, meeting important people. You mature a lot but you also close yourself to your closest nucleus and ration public appearances a lot”Admitted the pilot.

In addition, and as a reminder, Fernando Alonso explained to De la Morena how the bicycle accident he suffered before the start of the season was like and which led him to undergo surgery to undergo surgery for facial injuries. “I was going through the city and at a crossroads to enter a supermarket, two cars left a gap for another car to pass. Another car passed and I hit the car. I lost consciousness, I hit my jaw. I woke up in the ambulance and had a CT scan. That night they operated on me for cracks in my jaw and they put on some plates that will be removed at the end of the year ”.
