Davidovich goes to eighth in Estoril at the expense of Andújar

Alejandro Davidovich defeated Pablo Andújar at the Estoril Open in two sets to one (3-6, 6-4 and 1-6) and went to the round of 16 in a match that was interrupted due to rain. Davidovich, 21, is in 48th position in the ATP rankings and has 25 wins and 27 defeats, while Andújar, 35, reaches 80th position in the ATP with more than 300 games and 4 titles in her hands.

Davidovich will face Frenchman Jeremy Chardy against whom he will fight for a spot in the next round.. Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas was the last winner of the Estoril Open -which was held in 2019- when he beat Argentine Pablo Cuevas in the final. In 2020 the tournament was not held due to the pandemic.

In the 2021 edition, the seeds that have gone directly to the round of 16 are Canadian Denis Shapovalov (14th ATP Ranking), Chilean Christian Garin (22nd ATP Ranking), Frenchman Ugo Humbert (31st ATP Ranking) and Japanese Kei Nishikori (41st ATP Rankings). Other Spaniards such as Fernando Verdasco, Jaume Munar, Carlos Alcaraz, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Roberto Carballes and Pedro Martínez participate in the tournament.
