Cleveland Indians changes name to Guardians after 106-year history

The Cleveland Indians are renamed the Guardians.

Lyou Cleveland Indians officially changed their name to Guardians. This Friday through social networks, the franchise confirmed the modification after 106 years of history.

Faced with the wave of different claims and suggestions for the team to take action, because the name could have connotations related to racism, the institution finally made the change. The Guardians will compete in the Major Leagues starting in 2022, so this is their last season as Indians.

Last year the Redskins said goodbye to their nickname within the NFL and they played last season under the name Washington Football Team. This after pressure from sponsors forced them to make this decision.
